In 2004, CAN DO developed a plan to create a small business incubator in order help aspiring entrepreneurs start new businesses in the Greater Hazleton area. In January 2005, The Greater Hazleton Business Innovation Center opened its doors in a 15,000 square foot CAN DO facility in Valmont Industrial Park. The program was called CAN BE – the Community Association for New Business Entrepreneurship.
A business incubator is a facility that provides leased space at affordable rates and a program that helps to nurture new businesses through the difficult start-up years. The program offers resident consultation and management assistance, access to financing opportunities, networking with other start-up companies experiencing similar early stage problems and access to technical support services. Clients share office services, office equipment and conference room space – all are included in the modest lease rates.
